Invitation to the opening of the exhibition "Echoes of the Song Festival" in Bijūnas

"Echoes of the Song Festival" is a series of exhibitions and opening events in Trakai and Elektrėnai municipalities dedicated to the centenary of the Lithuanian Song Festival, which aims to present to the public the large archive of photographs collected by Zenonas Vilbrants (1949-2011), a long-time photo correspondent of Trakai district, capturing the moments of the regional song festivals that took place in Trakai for many years, which were one of the most spectacular and most important cultural events of that time.

The exhibition has travelled to all eight municipal elderships of Trakai District Municipality and Elektrėnai Municipality, and is finishing its journey in the Bijūnai Multifunctional Centre, thus bringing the centenary Lithuanian Song Festival closer to the district, reducing cultural and social exclusion, so that every resident of the municipalities, even if they live in a remote area, can feel the spirit of the festival and get involved in the cultural activities.

The exhibition will feature photographs from the archives of photographer Zenonas Vilbrantas, which the photographer's daughter has agreed to lend, revived and framed from negatives, as well as large-format photographs of the folk costumes of our region, the Dzūksy people, transferred onto canvas fabric, combining the old textile traditions with the modern possibilities of printing.

The opening of the exhibition will take place on 9 November at 13:30. The exhibition will take place at the Bijūnai Multifunctional Centre. The event is free of charge. During the event, filming, photography and publicity will be provided.

The project is organised by the active community of Bijūnai, which believed in the relevance of the idea. Dovilė Bagdanavičienė, Chief Specialist of the Culture and Tourism Department of Trakai District Municipality. The project is funded by the Lithuanian Council for Culture and Trakai District Municipality.
